Have you tried deleting the Finale Preferences file ... ~/Library/Preferemces/Finale 2004 Preferences ... not sure about 2005 but would guess it's at ... ~/Library/Preferemces/Finale 2005 Preferences ... maybe the file has become corrupted. I don't have a problem doing what you describe.
