what you have to do is the following:from the file menue choose print>output options> [check] "save as file"(this will give you access to two options, pdf and postcript, choose postcript, then you will have a postcript file which you must open with distiller and convert to pdf , voila! I've got some PDF's I created from Finale files in OSX, and many of the characters appear as rectangles instead of characters.
