I really didn't panic when I couldn't open the file, "what the heck, I told myself, I have my back-ups - sometimes I make two - so I got on my horse and went gallivanting through the prairie hoping to be rescued by my back-up, but as I knocket-knocket on its icon I didn't get any answer, but I didn't panic either, this time I said to myself "perhaps it doesn't want to answer unless I call it by another name, thinking that "a rose by any other name would smell as sweet..."
but no my back-up was being supportive of the original file, and maybe it was thinking something like " why should I open, or respond, for that matter, when my originator, my mammy isn't opening"... and all this years I have being fooled to believe that back-ups don't do that sort of things , there must be a moral behind all this...

thank you for your concern

What can I do to open the file and finish what I am doing , should I start a new file or just jump off a cliff ?
I am working with Finale 2004 on a Mac with system X.

This may be obvious, but do you have the autosave function on? If so, you should have a usable version of your file in what ever directory you store these automatically saved files.
