Enhanced tuplets entered in 2005 (Mac), when converted into a 2005a file acquire this annoying characteristic: if "avoid staff" is checked, the tuplet numbers jump some 48 to 60 evpus away from the staff, destroying the vertical relationship with the notes and with the brackets, if there are any. Unchecking "avoid staff" makes the tuplet editable but requires excessive fussing to get things right. Trying to edit individual tuplets with "avoid staff" still selected is impossible, as the number will only jump to the determined position over or under the staff (and too far away).
The same situation occurs if I enter tuplets in a new document created in 2005a.
I called Macsupport at Make Music, and I must say that the consistently good help I used to get from the folks there has deteriorated. I get no reasonable response and am told fairy tales like, "It's because you created your template in 2004," or some such nonsense. They don't seem to be able to recreate the situation, though it is consistent in my system whether working in an old (but converted to 2005a) template or in a completely new document created in 2005a.
Can anyone offer any help with this?
If there is nothing I have missed, and there's no easy repair, then I must warn against using the 2005a update. There were some things about Enhanced Tuplets that did not work perfectly in 2005, but they were considerably less problematic than this.
Thanks,
Chuck
