It turns out there are other (also presumably misplaced) files in
\program files\component files\

I have copied these file (above) on top of the earlier ones that were
already in \program files\finale 2005\component files\
from the original 2005 install.
fpa.dll 751 kb 7/11/04
hp.dll 408 kb 7/13/04
SmartMusicMarkers.dll 830 kb 7/11/04
Smpsoloinst.txt 5 kb 7/11/04
According to this thread this situation likely only applies to people who
downloaded the Finale 2005a update shortly after it was posted on 11/12/04.
As Jari has already mentioned, if your hp.dll inside of
\program files\finale 2005\component files\ is dated 11/4/04 you need NOT be
concerned.
