Hi Jef,

I'm not sure, but I think the limiting factor will be the width between the feet of the Garageband keyboard rather than its height (pretty narrow). I tried using the little stand that came with it and found it flimsy and no particular advantage. (The height got in the way of seeing the bottom of the monitor.) I'd rather have the keys on a solid surface, and the whole arrangement is close enough - with the G-band keys only 6 or 7 inches behind the mac keys. Everything is within easy reach even on one level. The G band is about an inch higher than the mac keyboard without using its stand.

I'm trying to get used to the different position of my hands operating this setup. I used to have a large (very large) midi keyboard at a 90 degree angle on my right - and used my left hand to enter the numerical note values on the mac keyboard. With the big midi thing gone, I have some advantages in my studio setup that are appealing - much more space and a better orientation, but I find the Garageband keyboard at least one octave shorter than I'd like. The octave switches work fine, but it's hard to try a spread out sound all at once - to check a bass note against a wide voicing, for instance. This stuff is so personal - what one gets used to. Another funny thing, because this setup encourages LH on the midi and RH on the mac, I find that I am inclined to want to do things in the "Simple Entry" order (note value first, pitch second) rather than the "Speedy" order I've been using for years. Maybe it's time to learn the "Simple" commands that attach dynamics and articulations as the notes are entered. It takes me a long tome to break old work habits and acquire new ones.

Anyway, I don't know if this is going to be helpful to anyone else. It's "hands on" for me before I really know how I will feel about using what has become as much my "instrument" as the bass is.

Hmmmmmn! $60 just to add a little stand (on the macmice one that I found) doesn't seem economically sound. I should have waited, or looked longer and harder.

chuck, by the photos on the site, it looks only those tiny apple keyboards fit underneath; would a macally extended keyboard fit underneath (top of frame is 40mm without the keyboard feet extended, top of F-keys is 45mm without kb feet extended).
