It sounds like the MiniMac has a one-piece metal shell that has to be spread and the clips detached, like the iPod does, if it uses the same tool.

I used a nylon screwdriver (non-conducting, anti-magnetic, for adjusting cathode-ray tubes and the like - worth about a buck) to open my iPod and replace the battery. The screwdriver was trashed afterwards because of my ham-handedness, but that's fine. I can see how it would be very easy to screw up, though, I almost ruined my iPod.
