Darcy,

The new Mac mini? I don't know. You'll be the first I know who tries.
Maybe 15-20 instruments? G5s get 40 instruments (since twice the processor
speed). Your current machine is not idea - Frankenmacs (G3 upgrades)
generally don't work because its still the old bus.

We also provide a contrabass clarinet for those extra low notes.

Hi Gary,

Thanks so much for the info. As it turns out, I just received my copy
today, and I've already downloaded the updates, so I guess I'm running
the "Second Edition" already!

I have another couple of question for you:

1) How well do you think GPO + Finale2005 will run on a Mac mini 1.42
GHz G4 with 1 GB RAM?

My current machine is below the minimum system requirements (Beige G3
w/1 GHz G4 upgrade, 768 MB of RAM), but I was hoping I might still get
usable playback on simple Finale scores with few instruments and all of
the processor-intensive stuff (like reverb and ambience) turned off.
But my sad old beige machine still chokes on even the most simple,
limited Finale score, despite the upgraded processor.

I won't be using the upgraded Beige G3 much longer -- I've preordered
the maxed-out Mac mini (1.42 GHz G4, 1 GB RAM), which should be
arriving Friday. However, with this setup, can I reasonably expect to
get uninterrupted playback of full orchestral scores from Finale? Or
does that basically require a top-of-the-line G5?

2) Why does the bass clarinet in GPO only go down to (concert) B1?
Many bass clarinets these days have an extended range down to low C, or
concert Bb1, and many scores call for this note, so it seems like you
ought to support it.

Best regards,

- Darcy
