Eh?

A violone is a member of the *viol* family, not part of the violin 
family, and has a variable number of strings.

Certainly the instrument NYU is acquiring will have gut strings, a 
flat back, C holes and frets, which means it has nothing to do with 
the modern double bass nor with the cello.
