Andrew, is there no "Consolidate Library" command in your OS 9 version of iTunes? That's the command you really want -- it will move everything to the iTunes Music Folder specified in your preferences.

If there is, it's not in any menu or submenu.

I was worried this was a feature that was added in post-OS 9 versions. Anyway, you can do the consolidation in iTunes 4.7 once you import all your songs and playlists.

Are you still having trouble? If so, your first step would be to search for every file on your HD with the *extension* ".aif" or ".aiff" (command-F in Finder, change "Name" to "Extension") and manually drag them all to a unique folder -- call it, say, "Music To Import" -- located inside your iTunes Music Folder.

Then, in iTunes OS 9, "File -> Add To Library," choose that folder. There may be duplicates -- don't worry about them at this point.

Then follow the instructions I sent for importing your songs and playlists into the OS X version.

Once you've imported into iTunes OS X, the "Consolidate Library" and "Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized" options should move all of the files you put in the "Music To Import" folder into folders organized by artist and album (provided you have specified this information in iTunes), and you can get rid of the "Music To Import" folder, and manage any remaining duplicates.
