Okay, I found and downloaded Renamer4Mac, which is a very nice freeware batch renamer for OS X.

I appended ".mus" to all documents.

I replaced all spaces with underscores ("_").

I replaces all em dashes with hyphens.

I removed all periods except the one in ".mus"

So, the filenames now look like this:

Az_Der_Rebe_Elimelekh.mus
Az_Der_Rebe_Elimelekh-A_Sx.mus
Az_Der_Rebe_Elimelekh-BCl.mus
Az_Der_Rebe_Elimelekh-Bsn.mus
Az_Der_Rebe_Elimelekh-C_Bn.mus
Az_Der_Rebe_Elimelekh-C_Tpt_1.mus

I try to run the "batch convert to 2005" FinaleScript.

FinaleScript now chokes on EVERY SINGLE FILE.

ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Is there -- somewhere -- a list of characters that you can't use in your filenames if you want FinaleScript to work? Because this is absolutely insanely eye-gougingly head-on-desk-bangingly frustrating.

I can't even begin to convert the fonts until I get all the old documents updated to Fin2005, and I can't get all the old documents updated if it's going to prompt me for every single filename. Gah.

The text search and replace should be no problem, as long as you get
this filename issue sorted out.

Seconded. I've batch processed hundreds of files replacing several fonts in one go.
