Thanx for all the replies -- it's the manual that's so bad. It looks like there's lots of goodies but telling us what they are and how to use them is another matter.

For instance -- changing layers -- I can't get QK to pull down the menu to move layer 1 to layer 4. It tells me maybe I should use 'menu clicks' instead. But of course it provides no docu on where I can find it or what it means.

I agree, few but the most basic shortcuts work without tweaking. This is largely because windows can be named after the file you're working on, so the shortcut won't work on another file unless you set some sort of wildcard to the allowed window names. While a bit boring, this level of sophistication also allows some of the more lunatic bits of scripting that I couldn't live without, passing files to different applications and making judgements on them as you go.
