You didn't simply quote Brahms. You quoted him *in an approving 
manner* making a statement that explicitly excluded non-believers as 
good composers. The quote asserts that great music can only exist 
when inspired by God.

That's offensive.

That's horridly offensive, much like Lieberman's ridiculous comment 
that all morality comes from religion.

You endorsed Brahms's sentiment in the way you posted it, and I 
reject the sentiment entirely.

I can't see how any post-Enlightenment western European could *not* 
reject it categorically.
