Uh, have you read the quote in its original context? Not that I recommend this -- it's incoherent. Paglia is a horrifically bad writer and sloppy thinker and I honestly don't know why anyone takes her seriously.

Well, I don't know if "seriously" is how I'd describe taking it, but I thought Paglia's first book was marvelous. Alas, she hasn't been quite the same since becoming a celebrity.

I don't find Paglia to be a bad writer at all. Her style is to throw out an undisciplined abundance of interesting ideas, many of which may not pan out. Maybe that's what you mean by "sloppy", but if so, then I enjoy her sloppy thinking.

I will happily agree that Paglia is sometimes "full of shit" (as the phrase goes, 'round here). No one agrees with everything she says, not even she herself. Indeed many of her ideas contradict each other. That's part of the fun.

There are few writers or celebrities whom I enjoy seeing interviewed -- on virtually any topic -- than Ms Paglia.
