Aha! I'm not on Tiger as yet. That explains why I don't get any Widgets.

... which appeared on my desktop!
F12 in Mail gives me a "chuff" (sheer coincidence that it happens to be my alert sound!) sound but nothing written. What app are you running where you hit F12 to get a dictionary?
