Actually, it sounds to me like Bob has "Save Preferences on Quit"
turned off. But if you turn on Automatic Update Layout, then go File
-> Save Special -> Save Preferences, it should be on next time you
launch Finale.

Hi All:
How can I make automatic update layout the default setting. When I
reopen a part it is uchecked. I am using Mac Finale 2005a with OS
10.3.9
In MacFin 2005b with the same OS, Automatic Update Layout stays the
way I had it checked, no matter what the status of the file was, even
after I quit and relaunch Finale. I suspect the checked status of that
item is saved with Finale Preferences.
Update to 2005b (it's free, and that may have been a bug that was
fixed) and check again. If that doesn't fix it, then you may have to
write to MacSupport.
