When the benefits of upgrading are are slight as they often are with Finale upgrades, waiting two or three upgrades is by far the most efficient course of action. As long as I do not have $100 that is not better used elsewhere, and am getting good use of the version I have now, I see no need to pay for features I would not benefit $100 from.

This is my take.
I upgrade right away, and have been doing so since v1.0 in order to
support Coda so they don't go under, while trying to ignore the fact
Finale does have more bugs than my other DAW applications!

I do that as well, but as a self-employed musician it is a business expense that I can write off. Were I employed in another field and were only a hobbyiest in the musical world I would certainly take a far more conservative upgrade path.
