I began using the work-around I described before I ever discovered the "fixed size" button, and do not recall ever having used it.

One "advantage" to the method, though, is if one customarily uses a page size reduction other than 100 percent, for example not changing the 85 percent default. If one types a text block, using 12 point "fixed size", but has the page size reduction set to 85 percent, the actual absolute size on the final product will be a bit more than 10 points (85 percent of 12). If you actually need to have the page size at some ratio other than 100%, and also absolutely have to have an abolute point size close to 12 points, I think that the only method to accomplish that is to take the point size of the page attached text block, and divide by the page size reduction.

Noel,

What are you talking about? If you "absolutely have to have an abolute point size close to 12 points," then you simply click the "fixed size" box and your text will be 12 points regardles of page, system or staff reduction.
