Wait a second. Let's differentiate between "illegal and unethical" on the one hand, and the realities of cyberspace on the other. In the latter case, there might as well be no rules, because there's no way to enforce them. It's the American Wild West of the 1850s.

Think about it for a moment: how many people on this list would feel comfortable publishing one of their compositions in its entirety on the internet, even with a big copyright notice in bold at the bottom? Raise your hands.

That's what I thought.

I'm as unhappy (angry, frustrated, add your own adjective here) as anybody else about this state of affairs. I grew up in a world where copyright protection meant something. On the internet you'd be crazy to think it still does--everything is fair game. So you might as well not be in denial about it.
