But you don't NEED to do this, is my point. In Finale, you can select *and* apply the articulation with a single click (or drag-enclose operation). So being able to select non-contiguous notes provides no absolutely *no additional benefit.*

If you have to click on a note or block of notes) to select it/them, you might as well apply the articulation you want *right away*, instead of selecting multiple non-contiguous blocks of notes and *then* applying the articulation.
