It shows, I guess, that people intereted in gamba (and there are
thousands in the world) are not cross-interested in synthesized music
sounds. Perhaps it's because no one is writing new music for gamba
(except me, of course).
I hear MOTU's upcoming orchestra sampler, MSI contains 8GB of superb
solo instrument samples which seems to includes historical instruments
including gamba, but of course this is moot since MakeMusic is now
sleeping with Native Instruments and shutting everything else out. This
is upsetting me right now.
Here is MSI:

It just doesn't make sense to me. If Finale advertises support of VST/
AU then why they cripple and only allowing NI, why I won't be able to
use my sample players such as MachFive which is 100% VST/AU compliant
and which I spend a lot of money and time for. As far as I know, no
other company has done this kind of limitation.
Oh well... I happened to be upset with NI right now because their web
auth screwed my GPO registration, and they are not helping me.
Sibelius did the same thing, just with a different sample set. Same
company, though, NI. It appears as if Finale just wanted to do the
barest minimum to accomplish the same thing only to do it in a more
robust manner.
Why not make Finale compliant with any VST/AU compliant sample player?
Why limit the end-user? Who's paying MakeMusic? Us or Native
Instruments? Never mind, I know the answer, read my earlier post on
bookstore chains selling their display space, and also take into account
supermarkets' long-standing practice of selling shelf-space to
manufacturers or distributors.
Just further proof that when another company wants to climb into bed
with some company, the customers of that company lose their right to
choose, they loose in the flexibility which a truly independent company
would have included.
There is no programming reason that Finale has to be limited to
NI-specific sample sets. Any way to get the marketing department at
MakeMusic replaced?
