I've been lightly following this Sibelius font discussion, and felt I
should chime in that a year or so ago I was playing around with the
Opus font
Funny you should mention Opus because I've used it over the years
under OS9 and recently have had trouble with it on OSX.
My setup: PPC G4 DP 1.2GHz FW800 OSX 10.3.8/Classic 768MB and Finale
2k2b, 2k4c and Finale 2k5b. My keyboard input menu is set to
Australian. My Finale MacSymbolFonts.txt file includes Opus
Percusssion and all other non-text (ie music) fonts that are active.
I've checked my system prefs for some peculiar key combination that
might be interfering and I don't have any keyboard shortcuts apart
from the default ones in Fin2k5.
I'm getting bizarre things happening with third party font mappings
including Opus Percusssion, Crescendo and most probably others I
don't know about yet, and that could be a whole other scary story...
I'm revising a full score that was created in FinMac2k2b.r2 on older
PPC9600 with OS 9.1. I used Opus Percussion (the older 1999 True Type
variety) and specifically used the hand sleigh bell (Opt-Sh-l
"el"/Symbol Selection ASCI#241); Whistle (Opt-l "el"/Symbol Selection
ASCI#194). I've spent a lot of time cleaning up fonts in Font Book
and checking with FontDoctorX and enable only the fonts in my System
Folder>Fonts folders so that they're available system wide to both
OSX/Classic all users. The original file I created in Fin2k2 opens
fine under Classic 9.2.2 and Fin2k2 app with the Opus font glyphs all
OK.
I imported the old file into Finale 2k5a and my Opus Pecussion hand
sleigh bell (Opt-Sh-l) and Whistle (Opt-l) appear as the hanging
tubular chimes (Symbol Selection ASCI#210) and the rivetted cymbal
(Symbol Selection ASCI#172) respectively on screen on the page. In
checking the first what is supposed to be a sleigh bell symbol in the
Articulation designer box I see the chimes glyph. When I enter the
main/flipped button and get the Symbol Definition box I see the
correct (sleigh bell) glyph selected. On exiting, the wrong glyphs
appear on screen again. I've tried other glyph symbols and it appears
as if the keyboard mapping is all wrong for Opus but not for other
text fonts such as Times etc.
I've experimented and checked my keyboard input menu and made sure
Australia was selected but made no difference. I then tried US and
some other likely keyboard inputs but to no avail.
I've updated the Opus to the latest Sibelius 4 version and installed
them in the System Folder/Fonts folder, and removed all other
versions. Still exactly the same keyboard character mapping problems.
Then I was intrigued by Matthew Hindson's post:

It's
Makemusic's fault that the Opus font doesn't work anyway, as they
limited which properties of fonts may be used in Finale (OS X).
Matthew
I'd very much like to know in what way MM limited font properties in
OSX and would appreciate a link/doc reference that might help me.
This got me thinking about other fonts that I use and immediately
checked out that oldy but a goodie, Crescendo. It appears that the
keyboard mapping has changed on this too, when compared to the
original keystrokes recommended by the documentation that came with
the font. However, selecting the symbols directly in Symbol Selection
proved to be OK and the font characters appear normally on page.
wonder if anybody's got any ideas and would really appreciate any
clues as to Matthew's allusion
cheers
