Well, Finale sends MIDI to Vi (virtual instrument), which format can be
AU, VST, MAS, RTAS, etc, etc. You seems to be mixing two different
protocols. MIDI is MIDI. Finale HP uses CC1 MIDI message when GPO is
selected, while it is not a standard (why can't it be the standard CC11
or even CC7?! I feel monopoly).

So explain then why we didn't have AU support in Digital Performer from the get go. Or Protools. It seems that it's a little more involved than just saying "ok, this midi stream is going to go to an Audio Unit now". Otherwise why didn't Finale 2005 or 2004 have it? And then, why can't I select, um, say Battery, or Sonik Synth in Finale?

Looks to me that something is not done right with Mac Finale. Rushed to market with something half-working. I can select GPO, Sonik Synth, Battery, or whatever in Digital Performer, and still use MIDI. Can't seem to do this with Finale 2006.

Exclusively support Native Instruments seems wrong. Sonik Synth has a lot of good sounds, and it's way less taxing on my system. I think I can run quite a few more instruments in Sonik Synth than GPO. Plus, it has things like SAXOPHONE, and guitars. Things that I might actually use in an arrangement, in addition to flutes, strings, clarinets, and what not.

And what David was saying about XP optical drive issues is in fact
true. Mac supports peripherals at the BIOS level, while PC doesn't. Mac also used to have a problem with 3rd party after-market peripherals
before the WorldROM machines (Tuppoer G3) but not anymore :-)
Gee, I think my PC's Bios is supporting my drive. So, if the PC is supporting it, then why doesn't Windows XP support it? Seems to work fine in Linux, FreeBSD, or Windows....

Look, who freaking cares about this XP optical drive thread. So what if one guy who happens to do PC repair for a living sees it all the time. It affects like what, 1% of the people out there?

My original comment was "Why not go out and get a DVD drive to stick in the PC". Then we went off on this tangent on how Windows XP doesn't do this or that. Look, if you can go out and buy a marketed product that says it will work, then why not? Gotta take your head out of the sand sometime. I'd say the odds of it working are way more likely than it NOT working.
