Well, in light of the *reasons* for buying a DVD drive, just so the 
individual in question could use the Finale install DVDs, it seems to 
me that the warning is warranted, even in the interpretation that was 
not intended (though, in retrospect, I see it was understandable). 
When the option is to order the CD-ROM version from MakeMusic, or buy 
and install a DVD drive, it seems to me that awareness of the 
potential problems with optical drives could tip the balance towards 
just sticking with CD-ROM. Were optical drives 100% trouble-free and 
reliable, the add-on DVD install would be less of an issue.

I was only trying to provide context and information for the original 
question. I wasn't making blanket recommendations for anyone, nor was 
I even making categorical statements about all optical drives on all 
WinXP PCs.

Here's a question: regardless of how unclear I may have been, would 
you prefer that I had not raised the issue at all? Would you rather I 
keep quiet about the bad experiences my clients have had with this 
technology in WinXP?
