Dear Thurletta,
Sounds like that bass solo staff has some kind of entry in it. With
the MM, select all the empty measures and press CLEAR, then try
optimizing it again. If that doesn't work, send me the file, and I'll
try to fix it.

I'm using Finale 2002 for Mac. In 1988 I composed a Christmas anthem
and since the holiday is on Sunday this year, I've decided to print
it out again for my choir. This time, I converted it from
letter-size to Octavo-size and, to reduce the number of pages, tried
to optimize unused staves (SATB, Organ, Tenor Solo, Bass Solo)
throughout the piece.
I'm stuck now with an empty Bass Solo system/staff at the top of
page one above the treble/bass accompaniment staff. When I first did
the optimize, "Leave at least one staff" was checked and that may be
the problem. Now, if I try to optimize System 1 (the first four
measures of intro-accompaniment only) that Bass Solo staff still
sits there.
Please help. I don't want to "unoptimize" and start from scratch.
