I sort of doubt Dean's USB hub is the culprit, but anyway, the
only USB 2.0 hub worth getting is the Belkin TetraHub:

It works in either wall-powered or bus-powered mode, but I'm using
in bus-powered mode and it's fine.

Hi Dean,
I also had my UM -1 MIDI coming in via a bus, which I changed to
a direct connection via a USB port on the back of the new G5.
Hmmm...does this mean you were running your midi interface through
a USB Hub before?
Yes, I was running it through a Belkin 2.0 High Speed USB Hub, which
is powered. But with the G5, I have so many USB ports, that I don't
think I need it any more. I have no idea if this was the culprit
therefore or not.
This may be the culprit if it is an older USB Hub. The newer
machines and Tiger don't like the old USB Hubs. If this is the
case, you'll want a new hub. They aren't perfect with Tiger but
they do work. I would suggest getting a powered (this means it
comes with a "wall wart" :-)) USB 2.0 hub. Hubs that get their
power from the computer can be problematic.
I'm off to walk the dog and do Sunday sorts of things :-)
Take care,
Karen
