Hi Darcy,
It was nice of you to take the time to look for these! Thank you. I
checked them out and I think of the four options, I would personally
trust the Sonnet Allegro USB 2.0 card. The others didn't make
mention of specifically the G5/Tiger combo and although I really like
MacAlly and trust their products in general, I don't get the
impression that their card is quite up to par for the new machines
and Tiger. IOgear makes me nervous in general.
PCI cards is what Sonnet does really well and they have already
tested several of their products with Tiger (including the FW PCI
cards) with successful results. They are still testing the PCI USB
cards so I'd want to wait until they have fully tested them to try
them out.
I'm still squeamish about the whole PCI thing, but if Sonnet is
having luck, then I am now more open to the idea. But at this point,
I'd feel more comfortable trying one of their firewire PCI cards than
the USB PCI card.
Here is Sonnet's official statement:

Best,
Karen
Anyway, if you get a PCI card from here, and it conflicts with
sleep mode on your Mac, you can send it back for a refund:
