johannes, given your concern for the quality of EPS over TIF i find it strange that you use the OSX built-in PDF printer, isn't it like 600 dpi? or less?

It is full support for vector graphics. With Finale files that means it is as good as a direct PS print.

I actually use an application called PStill, which does the distilling more effeciently and offers options similar to Acrobat for much less money. However, as far as I understand it still gets PDF from the system, just optimizes them. Or perhaps it is getting PS and distills that.

Whatever the case, PDF is native to OS X, so the quality is as good as any print out.

on a related note, does anyone know how to find out just what the resolution of a PDF file is? i have acrobat standard 7, can access and alter all file info, but can't find this information.

What do you mean by the resolution of a PDF file? If it is vector graphics there is no resolution (although there is something about the accuracy of the placement of vector points, but even 150 dpi is high for that). If you include images and photos resolution does come into play, but you should really adjust that already in the layout application, instead of leaving this to the distiller.
