Because of similar past experiences, when I find this, the first thing I do is other staves to make sure I don't have conflicting information in another staff assigned to the same channel. I don't know as much as I should about the hierarchy by which items get executedin MIDI. I do know that under certain circumstances, an expression defined for playback can cancel out another expression assigned for playback in the same channel.
