Well, yes, but there's a margin for error there. What if you mis-type 
the file name, or accidentally open the wrong file and start edits? 
You can then screw up your successive versions.

That can't happen with a program that works in the background.

Secondly an undelete program protects you from other problems as 
well, not just this one.

Third, it's not very expensive, about $50.

Well, the undelete program reserves the space, so there's really no 
difference in storage requirements.

I prefer having my computer do things *for* me when it can do so 
reliably, rather than depending on a poor error-prone human being 
like myself. It was my own human error that caused me to buy the 
undelete software (after I permanently deleted a crucial file that 
represented weeks of work), and reverting Finale files (and other 
files, too) to earlier versions is just a side benefit of having the 
undelete software available.

By the way -- one thing I may not have made clear: the original MUS 
file is *not* in the list of files that can be undeleted, because it 
hasn't been deleted. Only the autosave and backup files are there, 
but since the backup is a copy of the file before a save, it's just 
as good as the original file.
