OK, I now feel extremely stoopid not understanding that, but on the
other hand, if that is what this thread is about, it isn't a new Finale
behavior.

When I was producing big band charts almost every week with Finale 1.0
up to around 3.2, this kind of Finale behavior was not surprising. With
my Mac512/MacPlus/IIsi back then, just deleting text data would had
caused such data loss that you might not realize. For this reason, I
used to do incremental save when dealing with large files as you
mentioned. Interestingly Finale was not the only one suffering from
delete cmd. ProComp was 100% crashing when you delete data more than a
few words in the text block, and even worse the file will be corrupted.
That was the reason I shell out $1,000 to get Finale in 1987.

It has been my understanding that the designer of Finale knows how
fragile Finale file might be, and that is why Finale has automatic
backup file system and Data Check utility. I have been so used to
babying Finale files. Does Sibelius has functions that suggests its
file might be similarly venerable? Neverthless, it is much desired if
they rewrite Finale from ground-up for modern OSes.
