Hi Dean,

My impression is that the price has come down to $200 - 300 for entry level printers, and that a pretty robust one can be found for around $700. There was discussion here of a particular Ricoh printer that folks liked a while ago. Depends on your needs - whether you need large format printing or not. My suggestion is to do what the young folks do - do a web search. You can find a lot on the HP site, and I imagine Ricoh has a useful site too.

You must be an old fogey like me, if you have yet to do this :-)

I see your point. Without researching, how much do they get for Laser Printers these days .... wouldn't necessarily have to be color, if that even enters into it anymore?

There are parallel-to-USB adapters especially for printers. I used one on a PC with no problems. I'd assume they are Mac compatible. The one I used was made by Belkin. I've seen 'em in Best Buy and even WalMart.

Most Apple printers are not parallel. They are localtalk and the only way to get them to talk to your new computer is via an appletalk bridge. To be honest, the expense doesn't really justify getting one, unless you have a very up the market printer (ie colour or A3). Anything else, just get a new laser printer with USB or Ethernet.
