Hi, Bill - are you planning on doing the articulation library, the chord library, or a new hand-written jazz-like font?

As you've gathered, the jazz font is very popular, despite serious issues such as the heaviness, badly drawn characters, and other limitations. Rich Sigler, the creator of the JazzFont, doesn't seem to be interested in re-visiting the font (it may not even be his to modify anymore since MM has co-opted it - one of the other list members may know).

I too, would be very interested in a new handwritten font. I purchased your font last year, but haven't used it because it doesn't blend well with the JazzFont, and there are some characters which don't appear properly, possibly due to platform/font issues (I'm using Windows, and I'm thinking I remember you saying it was composed in an Apple environment.) So I hope that that won't be an issue in your new project.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with - if I think of any specific suggestions, I'll let you know. I do prefer "# " and "b" to "+" and "-", and I spell out alterations rather than use geometric symbols (no deltas or circles). Perhaps "MAJ" and "min" would be one way to make it easy to differentiate those types. You might do an informal Finale survey - of course, it could take years to sort out!

Best regards,

Giz
