Actually, I think we do agree about the former. Only two of us voiced
our preference for working with auto-update-layout, and we both stated
explicitly that we agree that it makes perfect sense for it to be ON by
default.

P.S. Since a few here were interested, I asked my font geek friend
about those context-dependent fonts I mentioned. He says he's planning
to write an article on them soon, so suggests I wait a few days. Along
the way, he pointed out to me that these fonts only do their trick if
the application is set up to support them, which only a few
applications do so far. I think it's a safe bet that Finale will not
be among the first to get on board.
