You can do this with the Mass Edit tool, with select partial measures turned on. You may need to increase magnification, and be very careful with your dragging, but I select single notes this way all the time. (And then you do Mass Edit | Move/Copy Layers, but I think you knew that part.)



I think he means choose one note of a CHORD and assign it to another layer. No, there is no way to do this in Finale without a lot of kludging. Maybe with Voices? I never use them, so I don't know how that would go...

Or if he switched the layer BEFORE imploding the staves, that would be easier. But once all the parts are on the same staff in the same layer, it's hard to separate them again.
