Fontlab has become the standard in the industry I think, because Fontographer, as mature as it was, stopped developping their tool. OpenType and new technologies made it obsolete in a certain way. The new version of Fontographer looks on sceen as an OS 9 application, as far as display is concerned. Fontlab (and entry level TypeTool, which now also export OpenType) display is much more easier on the eyes (as far as the demo is concerned) than the new OS X Fontographer demo I've seen. Look out for the complete features to see if it is worth the extra cash, but I I had to spend 349$ on Fontographer, I'd rather pay the extra for FontLab.

I've been looking at Fontographer and FontLab recently, it seems
MacroMedia sold Fontographer on to FontLab and they've released it for
OSX. Does anyone have any practical experience of the two, and offer
some advice on their relative merits? Is FontLab just for serious font
geeks? Is it worth the extra cash?
