Hi Johannes,
Actually, there _is_ a way to get the Staff -> Respace Staves ->
Scale to X% to work for only the currently selected system, and after
some experimenting, I remembered how to do this -- just select the
bottom handle of any staff in the (optimized, of course) system you
want to modify.
Terrible UI, but oh well. It works.
