And PDF (the Adobe version) brings the benefit to print postscript
quality on all printers...

I thought your problems were all among people printing your Word
files on PS printers, or I would have suggested this as the reason
for the discrepancy before.
PDFs are designed to print fine on all printers, which is why using
Adobe Distiller to create a PDF file worked.
