I didn't realise he'd finally finished it! (Yet another reminder that
I've been out of the academic loop a bit too long...) Trouble is
getting my hands on a copy around here, as $250 is a bit out of my reach
at the moment ;) I'm intrigued to know if he's turned up firm evidence
regarding Petrucci's direct market.

If you've got information on Petrucci's retail prices, a lot of people

Well, I believe we now have a pretty definitive survey of Petrucci's
output, Stanley Boorman's "Ottaviano Petrucci: A Catalogue Raisonné":

(which takes you to:

Prof. Boorman is one of my dissertation advisors, and he just put
this book to bed last Spring, having been working on it at long as
I've known him (since 1988). It was published last November, and is
pretty much the last word on the subject from the recognized expert
on it.
Stanley has often cautioned me about the danger of considering
surviving sources as any kind of evidence for dissemination or
popularity, so I strongly suspect he has quite a bit to say about
that in his massive monograph (1,296pp.).
