It sounds like our systems are similar.  I use the following fields (all of which can be queried and listed/sorted):
 
Title; Composer; Arranger; Type; Grade; Cat. Number; Scoring; Comments
 
For the orchestral database I also started to include fields for the number of parts for each instrument in each box, but I soon saw the error of my ways. (This was when it looked like we were going to hire out music to outside agencies).
 
The headings above seem to have covered every eventuality so far and the comments section is a catch-all.
