That's funny; I need to know the scale function and chord relation to
play in tune. An E as a major third in the key of C is flatter than the
same note as a fifth in the key of A, for example.

Agreed (when playing with other tunable instruments: different with fixed pitch ET), but that seems to be instinctive with hearing what key one is in.
