On a Mac, British keyboard layout, it's opt-4. It's the US currency symbol for cent. Most fonts have a diagonal line, but in some it's vertical. The best-looking one for you purpose is Georgia, but Geneva and some versions of Helvetica also have vertical slashes.

Can anyone tell me how to get a C with a slash through it to represent cut time in Word without changing fonts? I imagine there is a diacritical I could get on the international keyboard, but just don't know which one or how to enter it.
