That's what I thought. Problem is, I can't remember how to hide the
layer so that it plays back. I seem to remember doing it once, but
don't remember exactly how to hide the layer and still achieve playback
of the hidden notes in the hidden layer. I know that one can hide the
whole staff and still achieve playback, so this one fallback work-around.
