Thanks for your input, everyone. Our music department at school is Mac, and and so is the creative deptment where I work. I've tried them out - it would take some getting used to, especially the mouse, but I could learn it without too much trouble. I'm just wondering if it is worth it. Why is it so common for music & art departments to prefer Mac? So far I haven't seen anything they can do that I can't do on my PC.
Historical tradition -- Macs used to be light-years ahead of PCs in terms of music production and graphic design. These days, along with you, I don't see any difference in capabilities, but as we all know, what we begin with we tend to stay with. So music departments and art departments have simply stayed with what worked best in the past.
I don't blame them -- why should they switch, since they faculties have invested so much time and experience into the Macs?
