In my opinion, if you're using the same font as for the music itself, ossias is
probably the easiest method (I sent a step by step description not long ago).
Can you repost this, or send it to me directly? I haven't saved it or
cannot find it.
If you use a different font to reflect the original notation, then expressions
are probably the best way.
Where would I get such a font? The original notation is from the 17th
century, and I might like the idea to immitate that in the incipit, if
it isn't too complicated to do so.
