I would like, if possible, to share some Finale files with an
acquaintance in another city who has Sibelius 2.1 (Windows, I
believe). I know nothing of Sibelius, and the acquaintance seems
fairly stymied by it all.
Is Finale import into Sibelius 2.1 possible? I can send older
versions of my files from Finale 2003, 2004 or the best versions of
the files from 2005 (all Windows).
Sibelius claims it is. I think what has to be done is to save the
Finale files in ~.etf format. Finale files stored in ~.mus format are
not readable by S~, as I recall.
I wonder if you might have a time problem, as well with some of these.
I don't remember when Sibelius 2 was released, but I think it
corresponded with Finale 2001 or 2002, so it is possible if your
earliest files are 2003, that your friend may not be able to open them
with Sibelius.
Your best bet is probably for both of you to get the Dolet Music XML
plug in for your respective machines (2k4 and 2k5, IIRC, include dolet
light, so _you_ may not have to purchase the plugin) and share your
files as Music XML files.
I sent her one Fin2005 file, and she wrote back "My home computer said
I could not open it because I did not have Anastasia font."
Hmmm. Did you use a font named Anastasia in your file? If so, she will
have to obtain a copy to be able to properly display the file.
And you might verify that she is using a Windows system; if not, here is
another layer of complexity, as if S~ 2.1 is for an old enough operating
system, you have a variety of other font issues, as well.
