I've got a whole bunch of things I've changed in my default, but I am using the JazzFont for most of my jazz and commercial work, so these settings might be of limited use to you.
Another thing that greatly affects how things look is the page size. My quick-and-dirty project parts are uniformly printed on 8.5 x 11 paper at 85-88% size. This needs thicker lines and larger text typefaces than when I produce a Cadillac project with parts on 9.5 x 12.5 inch paper at 100% (or close to 100%, depending on how tight things are) where some of my bolder choices just look ungainly.
Some of my settings I have gleaned from colleagues, both here on the List and elsewhere, and I'm not sure if they would be comfortable with me sharing them, though I will freely give any settings I have come up with myself. I am still experimenting, when time permits, and jig stuff around something awful, so even my default file is far from consistent.
Darcy provided me with some slur settings that are quite workable. Darcy, would you allow me to share them?
