Well, FinaleScript in any more recent version can do booklet printing trouble free, I do it almost every day.

Here are my thoughts:

If you think about it, any booklet printing needs to be a multiple of 4 pages.
I find that sometimes you need to add a few blank pages at the end of a score
to 'round up' the numbers or you can expand the layout a little to fit. I try
to finish on a R.H. page so the last blank page acts as a protective back cover
to the score booklet.

With FinaleScript there is no need to add blank pages, it will do so automatically. There is an added benefit: If you set text blocks for Page Range X to 0 they will only print on the real pages, not on the blank pages. This even works when you add pages or otherwise change the layout. With your method you would have to adjust your page number ranges if you don't want them to appear on the blank pages at the end.

I made up charts below so I can quickly select the grouping of total pages. I paste the number sequence onto the first page of the score and from Text tool/menu select <Show only on screen>. From there you can cut and paste into the finale print dialogue each time you need to print.
Again, FinaleScript saves you entering any pages by hand. That's what it is there for.

I believe Dennis already knew he could enter the page ranges by hand, the idea was to make this easier.
