Hi Don,

I have also been having this problem. Here's how I think it goes. If the document you open was created with a different list in the MacSymbolFonts.txt list than the one that's in the program in which you are opening the document, you get that pain in the ass notice. Then you can choose to either accommodate the situation by amending the list, or by clicking "yes" in the dialog. If you figure out what the best procedure is to prevent further annoyance, please report in.

My inclination is to amend the list to exclude "Times" (for instance - that's the one that appears for me) and make the correct choice not to include it when the dialog pops up, and keep doing that until I modify all files that were created with "Times" included in the list.

Other ideas are welcome.

Thanks for the reply, Michael.

I believe I have the basics down about the MacSymbolFonts.txt list. It's been a very mild nuisance for me, but does span at least two versions. (I didn't use 2003 or 2004 on a regular basis, so I don't know if this sort of thing showed in those versions, but I don't recall it any earlier.) The reason I posed these questions was because I had accessed the TextEdit file (as you suggested) removed Times, and the problem returned. And the other
night the problem intensified, as described previously.

The behavior seems buggy to me and I'd love to get the answers to at least a few of my questions. Questions which were asked in all sincerity, though I
was a bit put out when posting.

I've sent this off to macsupport and will let everyone know if they provide
anything else enlightening.

The list tells Finale which fonts it should consider as "symbol"
fonts: all the music notation fonts + Zapf Dingbats, Wingdings, etc.
Open it in TextEdit and delete any font that looks like it's a normal
text font (such as Times).

Just wanted to know (because it's been driving me crazy!):

What *does* this list do?

Why is Finale so possessed trying to ask me if every font known to
macman
should be on this list (well, more fonts, of late, than just Times)?

What fonts should be on the list?

DOES IT REALLY MATTER? I never notice a difference if I keep a
font on the
list or not.

Why does Times keep reappearing on this list when I take it off?

If I were to delete this list would Finale create a new one
(corrected,
maybe)?

Is this a bug?

If so, is it a Finale issue or an OS issue?

Guess I'm a little ticked.

This became more of an issue for me last night when I started getting
grilled for *each file I had open* every time I switched back to
Finale from
another application.
