Um, Windows has made no changes to TrueType specifications. Or, it
has *added* support for OpenType and Unicode, but older TT fonts
still work just fine. I have TT fonts form 1991 that still work
perfectly (though they aren't as easy to use with the CharMap
utility).

I don't know what the issues would be with Postscript, as Windows
provides no built-in support for PS fonts at all -- that's all
printer-dependent.

And the other issue is the changes made to Finale (character
positions were remapped at some point), but those would not prevent
using a font with the old positions -- it would just mean you have to
adjust your character mapping.

So, I just don't see any credibility to his claims about Windows
fonts.

I don't know what the issues are on Mac, but I, like David Bailey,
think it's terrible that Apple doesn't provide backward compatibility
for fonts. It's the kind of "gotcha" that keeps people like me who
have always respected Mac OS's and envied Mac users from seriously
contemplating a switch.
